Margaret Chavez

Instructor

Retired Sergeant with the Denver Police Dept.

Margaret Chavez has 25 years experience in law enforcement.  She began her career in law enforcement  with the Northglenn Police Department.  Her assignments included Patrol and Investigations.  She introduced and taught Self Defense Classes for Women while working at Northglenn.  After leaving Northglenn, Margaret joined the Denver Police Department.  Her assignments with the Denver Police Department included Patrol, D.A.R.E Instructor, Recruiting, Investigations and Public Information Officer.  Margaret was promoted to the Sergeant position, and she was assigned as a supervisor in the Patrol division working in District Six, one of the busiest and most diverse districts in the City. She was then assigned as a supervisor in the Auto Theft Unit of the Property Crimes Investigation Division.  Margaret recently retired as a Sergeant in the District Three Property Crimes Unit.

Throughout her career, she was involved in teaching and increasing her skills.  This includes hundreds of hours of classroom study in law enforcement training, laws and techniques.  She received several commendations and awards.  Margaret developed and produced a monthly television show for Channel 8, "The Blue and You", about the Denver Police Department.  She  won the Telly Award for the Best Show, surpassing cities such as New York and Los Angeles, who were also competing for this award.  This show is still in production today.

She was an instructor for the Denver Police Academy in Arrest Control Techniques, an Advanced Tactical Firearms Instructor at the Firearms Range, and D.A.R.E Instructor.  She has instructed several Self Defense Classes for Women of all ages at the Denver Police Academy, educating and training hundreds of women in the techniques of awareness and self defense tactics.

Margaret is dedicated to helping women learn how to defend themselves and uses her knowledge and training as well as her law enforcement experience to provide information that will help you from becoming a victim.      


Richard Stensgaard

Self Defense Instructor


Richard is a 25 year law enforcement veteran with extensive background in the instruction of defensive tactics and self-defense techniques to police recruits, law enforcement officers and ordinary citizens.  He is the lead defensive tactics instructor for a major metropolitan police agency.  Richard spearheaded the introduction of the Israeli self-defense and fighting system Krav Maga to law enforcement agencies in Colorado.  Krav Maga Defensive Tactics are now taught and practiced by numerous police departments and sherrif's agencies throughout the Denver metropolitan area and across the state.  Richard is a recognized law enforcement Krav Maga instructor in several areas including combatives (strikes, kicks, etc.) firearm defenses, edged weapon defenses and ground tactics. 


Michael Rappe

Instructor


Michael Rappe has been a police officer for a major metropolitan police agency for 24 years.  He has worked in patrol and served as a field training officer and served in investigations in the property crimes bureau and the crime lab.  He was the Volunteers in Policing Unit Coordinator.  He worked as the community resource officer  and presented numerous presentations on stranger awareness, child safety, crime prevention and neighborhood watch.  He created a Business Watch program in Denver training approximately 500 businesses in crime prevention techniques and performing security surveys. This included an emergency data base of their information for utilization by the police department. 

Technician Rappe was named Technician of the Year for  2004 by the police department.  He has conducted numerous personal safety classes for women in the City and County of Denver.  Technician Rappe instructs Homeland Security Classes for the Center for Domestic Preparedness, Western Community Policing Institute and New Mexico Tech and has instructed in cities across the country in the Incident Command System of Emergency Preparedness and Emergency response to events and incidents.
